Revit Live v2.0 – Includes Revit LT Support

From the Revit blog:

What’s new in Revit Live 2.0 for immersive architectural visualizations

An update from the Revit Live product team

I’m proud to announce the release of Revit Live 2.0.  It’s been more than a year since we launched Revit Live 1.0, and a lot has changed since then. On top of all the improvements we’ve made since our start, we pushed VR capabilities directly in the product, we added support for Revit LT, and we included Revit Live as part of the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection. But there’s always more to be done.

During this last year, the product team has visited AEC customers across the globe to discuss the challenges they are facing in their firms surrounding visualization and producing engaging experiences. The result of these visits and our development efforts have converged in Revit Live 2.0.

See what we’ve been cooking for Revit Live 2.0

Simplification of our apps

We received many questions about the Live Editor and Viewer apps. To simplify things, we decided to get rid of the Viewer app and streamline the Live Editor. It is now simply the Live application.

Within the Live application, there is no longer a presentation mode, since Revit Live 2.0 is always in presentation mode. For users wanting to publish and share their real-time experience with collaborators, there is still a publishing capability for Windows, which produces a self-contained zip file. This self-contained Live scene does not require the use of an app and can be launched standalone, without requiring the end user to install anything on their machine.

Speed

Customers have been clear that processing speed was a challenge in Revit Live 1.x. Therefore, we’ve refactored our cloud service stack and pipeline so that it is more robust and much faster. We made sure that we can now process larger models more rapidly.

Also, we did not forget about the time to load the data in the Live app, so we significantly improved the loading time of the app. While it’s good to have the cloud do the heavy lifting, users should not have to wait long to experience their design in real-time and VR.

3ds Max Interactive Interop

A lot of customers wanted to be able to do more than just walk around their model in a Live experience. After all, the technology we use under the hood is way more powerful than what we’ve been exposing (so far) in the Live application. We therefore now offer full interop with 3ds Max Interactive, our interactive engine, which means the result of the Revit Live cloud service can be quickly opened in the Live app, or opened directly in 3ds Max Interactive. Simply put: the Live application and 3ds Max Interactive are fully compatible.

Since 3ds Max is also part of the AEC Collection, collection subscribers have access to both Revit Live and 3ds Max. For users who want to edit their scenes, enhance visual quality, or add interactivity to their visualization experience, they can do all of this in 3ds Max Interactive.

What to expect in the future

Revit Live 2.0 is paving the road to a more complete solution of efficient and smart data pipelines, allowing users to bring more data into real-time experiences. We want to leverage the 3ds Max ecosystem to help users tell compelling stories, whether those are through traditional renderings or immersive and interactive experiences.
